We met in a bar in Dallas, TX on Superbowl Sunday 2010. Richard was already having a great day, as the New Orleans Saints had just won their first Superbowl title and, needless to say, he was in great spirits. Richard happened to walk by me and I spontaneously decided to steal his NFC champions hat. We were inseperable for the rest of the night.
The funny thing is, Richard and I were "engaged" from the moment we met, via some Mardi Gras beads. Once Richard realized I had a British accent (about 20 minutes into our first conversation), he got down on one knee and "proposed". The beer may have had something to do with that. He rose up and screamed, "She said yes!" The bar noticed and congratulations were given by everyone there, and drinks all around. We may or may not have lied for the rest of the night about the proposal being real, in order to score some free drinks. Whoopsies. A couple of days later, we went on a date and ended up bonding over American Idol as Richard proceeded to tell me he thinks he is the fifth judge. Since I had forgotten to set my recording for that night's episode, we went back to his place to watch. Let me clarify that I did not stay! Very smooth of him, though. Idol days are over, but ours had just begun. Four years later, after many memories, becoming parents to our babies Maeby and Nola, we are so excited and blessed to be really engaged and really getting married. |
